Your partner or friend has decided it's time to quit using tobacco. This is great news. You're excited, and you want to help. Here are a few things to think about.

  • Ask the person how you can help. For example, you may be able to offer support and practical tips.
  • Help yourself understand what the person is going through by learning about how nicotine affects the body, Opens dialog and how hard it is to quit using tobacco.
  • Remember that only the person who has decided to quit can follow through with the decision. It's their choice and challenge.
  • If the person starts using tobacco again, don't be disappointed or make them feel guilty. Most people don't succeed the first time they try to quit.
