Now that you'll be using oxygen, there will be some changes to your lifestyle.

But those changes can really be worth it.

Oxygen therapy can make it easier to breathe, and that may help you feel better and live longer.

Here's a look at the types of oxygen you might be using.

Compressed oxygen is a gas that comes in different-sized tanks.

The large tanks are heavy, and once they're placed in your home, they're usually not moved.

You can get small tanks to take with you when you leave home.

Then there's liquid oxygen.

It's also available in tanks, but they weigh less and hold more oxygen, so they may be a good choice if you're active.

Or, you can use an oxygen concentrator.

It's a machine that takes in regular air and produces oxygen that's about 95% pure.

It doesn't have to be refilled like a tank, so it may cost less over time.

But it's electric, so you'll need a backup tank and battery in case of power outages.

You may find that a combination of oxygen sources works best.

You might use a concentrator at home, and keep a large oxygen tank on hand as a backup.

And then you could have small tanks or a portable concentrator to use outside your home.

Now, once you start using oxygen at home, following these tips will help you stay safe.

Don't change the flow-rate settings for your oxygen without talking to your doctor first.

Turning them up or down could be dangerous to your health.

Keep your tanks upright, and don't let them fall over.

Keep track of how much oxygen you have in your tank, and order more before you need it, so you don't run out.

Don't drink alcohol or take medicines that make you sleepy unless your doctor says it's okay.

They can cause you to breathe too slowly.

And never smoke or let anyone else smoke while you are using oxygen.

Oxygen is a fire hazard and will make a flame burn hotter and faster.

Keep a fire extinguisher at home within easy reach.

And finally, keep your oxygen far away from flames and heat sources such as gas stoves, barbecue grills, space heaters, candles, and fireplaces.
