[Host] You'll meet many people on the road to recovery and to reach your goal, you'll want to spend time with those who help you head toward a drug-free life.

Support groups are one of the best places to find them because the people you'll meet there are on the same journey as you are.

[Misty] "Walking into my first NA meeting I was pretty nervous. I mean, I used prescription drugs.

I wasn't sure I belonged there.

I purposely got there a little late so I wouldn't have to talk to anybody.

I just stood in the back and listened.

One guy talked about what his life was like when he used cocaine.

Lying stealing money to buy drugs feeling helpless to stop.

And everybody was rooting for him because he did stop.

It was a different drug, but exactly the same kinds of things I felt guilty about.

I left early that time, but the next day I stayed for the whole thing.

I kept going back and pretty soon I got a sponsor.

As great as my family and friends are, they don't know what it's like to lose control of your life.

At the meetings, I found people who know where I've been and who help me to keep moving forward."

[Jett] "I was a wreck when I was using opiates.

I ruined a lot of good things and I lost a lot.

Not just my job but my marriage my kids and my self-respect.

I can't blame my family for pulling away from me.

Finding my group well, I found people who weren't fed up with me who know what it's like to mess up and have regrets.

A couple of the guys are veterans, like me.

That's made our bond even tighter.

The brothers have seen it all and heard it all.

They keep me honest.

But it goes both ways.

And it feels good to know that I help them as much as they help me.

I don't call 'em 'brothers' for nothing.

They're my second family."

[Serrina] "I work in health care I was scared I'd lose my job if someone found out about my problem.

An online support group felt safe to me.

You might not think you'd really connect with people that way, but I've gotten very close with three women I met online.

We come from different worlds, but we are so much the same in how we feel and how we ended up with a problem.

For a long time, I lived a secret life.

I felt cut off from everyone because I had to hide my problem.

Being able to speak the truth knowing that I'm not alone that there are people ready to help anytime things get rough that's meant the world to me."

[Host] Support groups can offer understanding and acceptance and for many people, that's key in helping them stay in recovery.

You don't have to make this journey alone.

There are people who want to help and people you can help too.

And it all starts with attending a meeting.

When will you be ready to start?
