A penile Doppler study looks at the blood flow to your penis. This is ordered based on symptoms that you are having. One sign may be trouble getting or keeping an erection.
Erections occur through a process that causes special tissue in the penis to fill with blood. This then causes the penis to become erect.
An ultrasound (Doppler) is used to look at the blood vessels of the penis. This helps decide if there is a problem with blood flow.
With this test, medicine is injected into your penis. This will cause an erection. It will allow your doctor to look at the blood flow to your penis.
With all medicine and tests, there may be side effects. A minor side effect is mild bruising at the site of injection.
It is rare, but if you have an erection lasting more than 4 hours, go to the nearest emergency room for care.
