This test is a series of bladder x-rays. The x-rays are taken when the bladder is full, during urination (voiding) and when the bladder is empty. This test shows the shape of the bladder. It can help us find out if urine backs up into your kidneys when you pass urine.
The test will take about 45 minutes. There is no preparation. You may need to give a urine sample.
A tube is put into the bladder to drain the urine and fill it with a contrast solution. Once the bladder is full, x-rays are taken. The catheter is taken out and you will be asked to urinate while lying on the table. Another x-ray is taken. When your bladder is empty, the last x-ray is taken.
Parents will be able to be with their child during the test. Child Life is on hand for distraction and play.
Your doctor will review the results of this test with you.
Please tell your provider if you have an allergy to contrast dye.
