Removal of Breast Implant

What to Do

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.

  • Take it easy for one week.

  • Activity as tolerated after one week.

  • No driving while on narcotic pain medicine.

After Surgery

  • If you would like to wear a breast prosthesis in your bra, talk with your surgeon about when you can begin wearing one.  This will require a prescription.

  • You may have a small drain or tube under the skin for a short time.  This drain will remove excess fluid.  You will be taught how to care for this drain before you go home.  The drain is most often taken out on your first clinic visit or as otherwise directed.

  • You may shower the next day and pat dry. No tub baths or swimming.

  • Wear the surgical bra at all times except when showering, until your clinic follow up visit.

  • Plan to visit your surgeon for follow up in 5- 7 days, and in 14 days.

  • Redness, swelling or bruising of the incision.
