Circumcision is surgery to remove the skin that covers the head of the penis (the foreskin). Most people go home the same day as the surgery.
You may have swelling, bruising, and spotty bleeding around the incision. These symptoms typically improve over several days.
Keep the pressure-dressing on your penis as instructed by your doctor. Change the outer dressing if it becomes soiled. You may be told to remove the dressing after 24 hours.
Keep your wound clean and dry. You may shower 48 hours after surgery. Do not soak in a bathtub, hot tub, whirlpool tub, or swimming pool for two weeks after surgery.
You will have some small stitches that will dissolve on their own over time.
Follow Up
You will have a follow-up visit in the Urology Clinic in 14 days for wound check.
When to Call
Increased redness, swelling, bruising or pain.
Thick, foul smelling or colored drainage.
Bleeding that requires frequent dressing changes.
Pain not controlled with recommended pain medicine.
Fevers > 101º F or chills.
Difficult or inability to urinate.
